A new dawn for a set of unique vehicles
307123 and 312792 are both unique survivors. 307123 is the oldest preserved Mk1 AC EMU. 312792 is the only pair of Mk2 EMU vehicles to survive in preservation. All three vehicles have a unique story to tell in preservation, and The ACMU society is proud to now take on the challenge of restoring all 3 vehicles to their former glory.
Here's the Plan...
Phase 1 of the project will focus on a quick turnaround cosmetic restoration of 307123, to as close as possible original condition "BR Green", to mark the vehicle's 70th Anniversary in August 2026.

Operation 312
Phase 2 then focuses on 312792, giving the vehicle a full strip, corrosion repairs and brake overhaul to enable it to be run in passenger service at the CVR. DTC 78032 will be the first to receive the attention with the project expected to take around 2 years.

Alongside fundraising, we are actively seeking to recruit new volunteers to support Project 300 and the wider ACMU preservation effort.
We welcome people with a broad range of skills and experience, including practical hands-on work such as preparation, basic mechanical or electrical tasks, as well as non-technical roles such as documentation, photography, social media, fundraising support, and general project coordination.
No previous railway experience is required for many roles — enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn are just as valuable. This project is a chance to be part of something tangible from the very beginning and to help shape the future of a unique preserved train.
