The ACMU (AC Multiple Unit) Society and the Fife Heritage Railway are delighted to announce a new partnership that will see the iconic Class 313 electric multiple unit, 313 121, joining the growing network of preserved AC EMUs that the ACMU promotes and supports.

The vehicle will remain owned and based at the Fife Heritage railway in Scotland, with the ACMU providing extra support and promotion as we progress on our society’s goal to bring unity into the EMU preservation scene.

The Class 313 units, introduced in the 1970s, were groundbreaking as Britain's first "second-generation" EMUs. They served millions of passengers on routes across London and the south coast for nearly five decades. Unit 313 121 was one of the final of the fleet in service, in its last years used to help test pioneering ETCS digital signalling.

313 121 will become part of the ACMUs "Meet The Fleet" initiative, which already includes the similar ACMU-owned 315 856. By working collaboratively with the owners of similar vehicles it is planned to share knowledge, expertise and volunteers as we work together in the common goal of AC Multiple Unit Electric preservation.

"We are absolutely thrilled to partner with the Fife Heritage Railway to provide additional support for 313 121," says Lakshman Pathak, Chairman of the ACMU. "Fife's dedication to preserving this historical EMU and their exciting plans for the unit make them the perfect partner for this new chapter."
