Celebrating 200 Years of Railways

ree

200 years ago today in 1825, George Stephenson’s steam-powered Locomotion No.1 made the first public passenger journey on the Stockton and Darlington Railway. This kick-started a legacy which continues to this day. For over a century, AC Multiple units have been a part of this story.

From the earliest experiments on the Midland railway right up to today's IETs, Electric Multiple units have become the backbone of how we travel by rail around the UK.

One of the ACMU society's core objectives is to preserve and promote all AC multiple unit history; past, present and future. We already have a large collection of historical items, which we are slowly cataloguing in a new database, but we are always on the look out for more to help us tell the Electric story.

Our new website, acmusociety.com , also has our new 'Electro-Pedia'. Still in it's infancy, it aims to be a one-stop in depth database for everything EMU. Members can view it while it's under construction.

Sign up as a member today to help us continue to promote and support overhead EMU preservation!
