Introducing... The ACMU Society!

ree

Today at The East Anglian Railway Museum 's Railway 200 we "soft launched" a new society, and with it a new chapter for EMU preservation.

Both 309624 and 317345 were on full display in the centre of the yard, 309624 was adorned with Clacton "Depot Special" additions of white buffers and window frames as well as a new group headboard, ready to meet special guests including the one and only Chris Green OBE, Which the 309 and 317 vehicles then graciously received his personal seal of approval.

So who and what is the ACMU Society?

ACMU stands for Alternating Current Multiple Unit, and is formed from a merger of the Clacton Express Preservation Group and Class 315 Preservation Society, with the common aim to support overhead electric units in preservation.

The new ACMU society will inherit and continue all current projects and vehicles from the respective predecessors, meaning we will own the Sole surviving Class 315 No. 315856, and continue to support the restoration of EARM Electric Exhibits Class 309 309624 and 317345. This merger will include all other ongoing projects such as Project Networker, the historical archive plus more.

Looking ahead to the future, we are pleased to announce our first major event will be at The Greatest Gathering in Derby, 1-3rd August 2025. We are proud to represent preserved overhead electric units at this national event.

Stay tuned for many more exciting announcements and updates to come!
